MORE INFORMATION ON POIEMA:

Poiema Foundation was established to raise awareness, seek justice and provide holistic healing for victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. We believe God intimately and lovingly creates each person as a precious work of art. Sadly, women and children in the sex industry believe they have no value or self-worth. But regardless of how they feel, the truth is they are God’s handiwork (poiema). They are custom-designed by the Master’s hand for good works. It is our mission to share the love of Christ with them, restoring their identity, self-worth and God given purpose.

Our Approach:
Public Education and Awareness
We believe the first step in stopping human trafficking is education. We hold trainings for schools, churches, businesses and community groups. Our trainings focus on prevention and awareness and include information on:

  • How perpetrators recruit children
  • Vulnerability factors
  • How to spot suspicious activity in your community and report it
  • How to identify human trafficking victims
  • Sexual abuse prevention (Keeping Kids Safe)
  • Internet safety
  • How to talk to your children about sex
  • How to talk to your children about human trafficking

Advocacy and Outreach
Our volunteers serve as silent advocates during trials, showing support by encouraging the victims and their families as they testify against the pimps.  We also support the Victims’ Room at the Frank Crowley Courthouse in Dallas by providing monthly snacks, furniture, books, movies and meeting other needs.
Poiema has an Outreach Team that goes into the community monthly targeting strategic locations, such as truck stops, bus stops, and hotels, in search of missing children who may have become victims of human trafficking.

Victim Care
Poiema will provide safe, long-term housing and trauma-informed care for young girls who are at risk of being trafficked (prevention) and for those who were recently rescued from trafficking (aftercare). In this home girls will receive the following:

  • Medical and dental care
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Life skills and traditional education
  • Fitness and nutrition classes
  • Individual mentoring
  • Bible studies
  • Equine therapy
  • Gardening
  • Arts
